The Three-toed Box Turtle is native to the south-central part of the United States. They can be found from the Florida Panhandle to east Texas, and as far north as Missouri and Kansas. Though this species will eat leafy greens and melons, it prefers insects, snails, slugs, and other pests of the yard and garden. If you are lucky enough to have one of these placid, yet very territorial, turtles living in your patch of green, count yourself lucky!
