Prairie Ring-necked Snake
This little snake is gregarious, which means that if there is one there can be many, especially in the spring. This is one of the species that many of us in North America grew up playing with as many thought of it as non-venomous. But that is not the case! This little snake is rear-fanged and uses it's toxin to paralyze it's prey, which is usually earthworms and soft bodied insects. It's toxin is of no consequence to humans as this snake is too small to get a "bite on us"!
