American Alligator
The American Alligator is truly one of a kind. Yes, there is another alligator, the Chinese Alligator, but I am talking about the American Alligator's adaptation to cold. These guys can live farther from the Equator than any other crocodilian. They survive water temperatures as low as 45 degrees Fahrenheit, a temperature which immediately causes the American Crocodile to succumb and drown! Given this adaptation the American Alligator can be found from Florida north to the Great Dismal Swamp in Virginia and North Carolina, then west of Florida throughout the Gulf Coast States to it's western-most boundaries, eastern Texas and southeastern Oklahoma.
