Rut Activity
The annual Moose rut here in Alaska is a fantastic time to get up close and personal with the largest member of the Deer Family. One of the best places to watch Moose during this time is immediately on the outskirts of Anchorage, Chugach State Park. The main rutting area just north of Flattop (the most climbed mountain in Alaska) is a real hot spot. I have seen as many as 18 bulls, and many more cows, from one vantage point! But a word of caution; don't get too close to the animals or crowd them in any way. Moose are as individualistic as humans. Most will put up with your transgressions, others will not! You will not out run an angry Moose!

This bull Moose is brush thrashing; an action which displays his vigor, lets off a bit of steam, and polishes his antlers.
