Collared Pika
Pika are the high country's barometers. They evolved for a cold environment, and a simple rise of a degree in average temperature stresses them. Stress for a Pika means death. Given that, they are in trouble in the Rocky Mountains.

Pika literally work from daylight to dark (which is a very long time given the length of an Alaskan summer day) storing all types of vegetation under the stones in the rock fields in which they make their home. Large open areas, such as under the rock to the right of the Pika, will have a bushel of greenery stuffed in place before the snow flies.
