Snowshoe Hare
The white "rabbit" of the North, is not always white...nor is it a rabbit! Some call it the Varying Hare as it changes from summer brown to winter white each year, in an attempt to blend in with it's surroundings. As for the difference between Rabbits and Hares; Rabbit are born blind hairless while Hares are born with hair and are able to see. There, aren't you glad you asked!

I photographed this Snowshoe Hare over the 4th of July while driving the Denali Highway in Alaska. It was a wet day, as you can tell from looking at the critter's feet.
