Snowshoe Hare
The white "rabbit" of the North, is not always white...nor is it a rabbit! Some call it the Varying Hare as it changes from summer brown to winter white each year, in an attempt to blend in with it's surroundings. As for the difference between Rabbits and Hares; Rabbit are born blind hairless while Hares are born with hair and are able to see. There, aren't you glad you asked!

During my visit to Denali National Park in September 2009 I saw many many Snowshoe Hares. During my trip this past September 2011 I did not see a single Hare. The population had crashed. This scarify of prey means the predators will now suffer.
