Coyotes
Some fifty years ago, when I was but a boy, my Grandfather, Merland Henson, and I stood listening to a Coyote howl in the late part of the day. He told then that he remembered the first Coyote he had ever seen there in southeastern Oklahoma. He was a young man then, and the Coyote was the talk of the community. I thought that odd as I grew up with Coyotes there in southeastern Oklahoma, but he had not. They had spread north from Texas, crossing the Red River, into Oklahoma while he was growing into man hood. Today they are found in almost every area of North America. Coyotes. They have adapted very well to we Humans and our ways.

While driving through Denali this past September (2010) we spotted a Coyote above the road. All of us were in a hurry to get a photo before this normally shy animal made tracks to other parts of the park. Instead this coyote jumped off the cut-bank, then laid down under our pickup! It used the shade of our pickup to get out of the hot sun! Yes, Alaska can have hot sun...at least hot to us Alaskans! And certainly hot for a critter wearing fur!
