Fox Squirrel
Have you ever wondered how the Fox Squirrel, the largest native squirrel of North America, can cling to a tree while positioned head down…and look comfortable doing so? Its because their ankles are so flexible they have almost 180 degrees of rotation! That adaptation always impressed the heck out of me when I was a tree climbing kid. Today, as a naturalist, I think more along the lines as to how well this species has adapted to it's life style. I must be getting old…I need to go climb a tree again!
