Black Bears - Snow
Black Bears are a favorite with me, though photographing them can be maddening; especially when their black hides are parked on snow! The contrast between the two polar opposites, black and white, is tough. Do you expose for the bear, or expose for the snow? Most of us want to see detail in the bear, though none of us want the snow to be a blank sheet of paper. I'll keep trying to get it right. Check back on me often, if for no other reason than to see if I am making any improvements!

A young male Black Bear, fresh from his den in south-central Alaska, gnaws on the bones of a Sitka Black-tailed Deer, a carcass which was also visited by a curious Moose (that pile of pellets isn't from a deer).
