This is the lower Twentymile River, just inland from Turnagain Arm (of Cook Inlet), at Portage, Alaska. You are looking northeast towards the Chugach Mountains. The dead timber is the remnants of the forest that existed before the 1964 earthquake dropped the elevation of the area. The drop allowed water to flood the area, drowning the trees.
