Walking Sticks are the insects that kids can play with; they're big and scary, but they don't bite! Once kids learn these facts, it's game on! However, these herbivores, which are found through the mid-western portion of the United States, are quite fragile. Children should be taught to handle them with care, especially when grasping them about the middle and pulling up as the Walking Stick usually has a firm grasp. A firm enough grasp that an upward pull will break their back. Kids should play with and in nature, but they also need to learn where they can cause damage.
