Pink Salmon
Humpys, as we call them here in Alaska (Pink Salmon elsewhere), are the smallest, and the most numerous, of the Pacific Salmon. These are the salmon you find in tins on the grocery shelf. Here in Alaska, we find them about everywhere! The sheer numbers are absolutely incredible to see. Of course there is a down side; when those millions of fish die, the smell becomes so thick you can taste rotting fish in the air! Yes, taste!

on October 10, 2022Watching millions of Humpys fighting their way upstream is a sight to behold, but sometimes it is nice just to focus on one individual; to watch that one fish fight it's way home.
