American Anhinga
The American Anhinga is a bird of many names; names such as Darter, Snakebird, Water Turkey, and Devil Bird. This long list of colorful names is a result of it's widespread range in the warmer parts of North, Central, and South America. I say warmer parts of the Americas because this water bird does not have an oil producing Uropygial Gland therefore it cannot water proof it's feathers. The Anhinga spends many hours sitting in the sun, with widespread wings, drying it's feathers.
