The Verdin is a tiny, active songbird of the arid southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Though it lives where some of us would call "hot", it needs more; especially at night. In order to make sure it retains as much heat as possible during the night, this bird makes roosting nests. This effort reduces energy requirements for thermoregulation by as much as 50%. Pretty smart!
