Lapland Longspur
The Lapland Longspur is quite common in the Arctic, though I can't personally call this bird "common". During the winter, here in the Anchorage area, I find a few hanging around small flocks of Snow Buntings. During the spring migration, when the birds are headed back to the Arctic to nest, large flocks are to be found feeding on last year's seeds. Surprisingly these birds, in large groups, sound like musical Redwing blackbirds!

I captured this Lapland Longspur while it searched for a meal along the shores of the Knik Arm of Cook Inlet.
