The American Bittern is a stocky and well-camouflaged heron of dense reed beds, which makes it difficult to see. So difficult to see that many people have never seen one, though the bird is fairly common across much of North America. Count yourself lucky to see one of these birds, let alone watch it hunt for awhile!
