Eastern Turkey Vulture
The Turkey Vulture is the "Buzzard" all of us from southern Canada to the tip of South America are so familiar with. Though Eagles and Condors are larger, this bird is what we all see when we look up. There, in the sky, we see this great bird soaring, on wide wings, during their daily search for carrion.

North America's Vultures are a cold-blooded group. They stick to the roost long after most birds have started their day. While they are on their roost they spread their wings to capture more of the sun. This activity dries their feathers, bakes bacteria, and warms them up. Waiting until the day starts to warm also means thermals to ride. Our Vultures may be ugly, but they aren't dumb!
